As part of the 2025 edition of Moving Forwards, Sideways—esea contemporary’s annual initiative supporting the Hong Kong BN(O) community in Greater Manchester—I conceptualised and co-delivered a grant application workshop tailored to creatives navigating the UK’s funding landscape. Running from April to June, this year’s programme focused on capacity building and arts-based activities that support family well-being, encourage intra-community solidarity, and foster wider societal engagement.

Responding to the urgent need for practical resources among newly resettled creatives, the workshop offered hands-on guidance in crafting compelling funding proposals, with space to reflect on diasporic and cross-cultural narratives. It was shaped by a belief that access to funding is not only about resources, but also about confidence, context, and community-building. I hope to continue growing this initiative next year.
